Mayor fires 23 due to his COVID vaccination Mandate Executive Order, 4 Others were terminated for State Level Mandate Non-compliance.
The city of Bellingham was sixth among Whatcom County’s top 10 employers in 2020, according to a report from Western Washington University’s Center of Economic and Business Research.
In a sweeping layoff; Employees were fired with little considerations for the replacements, attached training cost or the reduction of Public Safety because of the terminations. There is very little science, publicly at least, that proves that people being removed from their jobs markedly reduces the spread of COVID outbreak or saves lives. Many believe that this increases the impression that those in Bellingham Government want to reduce the Public Safety budgets no matter what the cost.
From the Bellingham Herald
Here is the breakdown of those fired this holiday season…
Twelve left the Public Works Department, which has 221 employees. That includes two who resigned, eight who were dismissed because of the city’s mandate, and two who were dismissed because of the state mandate.
- Eight were dismissed from the Police Department, which has 170 employees.
- Four left the Fire Department, which has 188 employees, including two who resigned and two who lost their jobs because of the governor’s mandate.
- Police and Fire have the lowest overall vaccination rates of any city department, at 94% and 95%.

Nearly 98% of Bellingham employees are now fully or partially vaccinated, according to a chart that Fleetwood attached to his letter.
Some terminated city employees were granted a religious exemption but the City refused to accommodate them. Employees before leaving the city requested their sick leave be donated to Liz Googan a city employee who suffered a brain aneurism after being vaccinated. Liz has a special needs son and she has been undergoing physical therapy. The city refused one employees request because he was in a different group than Liz – he had over 400 hours of sick leave. 3 men who were terminated had a total of over $70,000 in sick leave that could’ve helped a fellow employee. Instead the city ate it.
No vaccine no job anywhere. It can’t come soon enough. Tired of people thinking their rights mean more than peoples lives.
The fully, 100% vaccinated city offices are now being run in “shut down” mode due to the massive number of COVID cases…..vaccinated employees infecting vaccinated employees and spreading a “disease” they were vaccinated against. Thank goodness their lives were protected from the unvaccinated. Way to go Alex you are a genius.
The Police Department actually loss 10 officers and 1 civilian employee. Some had resigned prior to being fired. They are going to another agency or retiring,
This is a perfect example of Leftist Democrats caring about the “little guy”.
I must admit; however, I have little sympathy for Bellingham’s citizenry.
They insist on electing and re-electing the same type of politician cycle after cycle.
When oh when will the sad folks in Bham snap out of it?
I’ve been watching with anticipation for twenty years and it just seems to get worse with age.
Wake Bellingham voters! Vote these Liberal morons out of office while you still have a chance! This whole county is living in a lawless society because of your liberal voting habits!
There will be a day of reckoning Comrade Fleetwood!
The further left the Democrats the more they are like Communists. Communists do not tolerate opposition. Perhaps they are lucky they only lost their jobs.
I hope they sue the crap out of the city and mayor.
