RE-Sources Story
Six Days after the County Council passed a county budget that included $25,000 for the non-profit Re-Sources; Re-Sources has filed a suit against SSA Marine for "unauthorized" work at Cherry Point. Click here for the Bellingham Herald story.
RE- Sources has been a very active opponent to any industrial component at Cherry Point and quite vocal against SSA Marine.
Should our tax dollars backstop RE- Sources educational arm while they have a specific agenda on business development in Whatcom County?
Re-Sources was the only bidder on RFP#11-84 put out by the Public Works Department.

A paragraph in the 283 Page Whatcom County Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan gives rise to this expenditure.
My question is why has the County Codified Education funding in any County ordinance or plan? It is not the job of County Government to educate our children.
In these budget constrained times it seems a little frivolous. This is an insult to the school system. Why not grant the money directly to the school system... there is accountability in grant funding... and bypass the Non Profit Middleman.
Additional Facts:
Many Non-Profit 501C-3's are required to continually prove they are providing educational opportunities. I don't believe the goal of 501C-3's was to use taxpayer dollars for this purpose.
Councilman Carl Weimer was very instrumental in RE-Sources for many years. That was not disclosed at Council voting time.
As stated above RE-Sources is an opponent of SSA Marine development and has sued them. The Council will be making a quasi-judicial decision on the Development.
